The annual sports fest of Jain University attracts talents from India and abroad

sportsAnother successful edition of VIE 2013, the annual sporting extravaganza of Jain University concluded in Bangalore with a still bigger participation of budding sportspersons from across India. Top universities and colleges from across India sent representation for the prestigious annual competition.

A gala opening ceremony at Bangalore in the presence of Dr. Roychand Chenraj, President, Jain University Trust, Mr. Shankar U.V., Director of Sports, Jain University, and Shiba Maggon, the well known former basketball player marked the commencement of the four day Sports meet from February 14. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Chenraj reiterated the commitment of Jain University towards sports. “We have always given full support to nurturing sports and it will continue in the future. VIE has proved to be an invaluable platform for talented sportspersons and we give credit to our Sports department for organizing it year after year in all its glory.”

This edition of VIE featured competitions in badminton, basketball, cricket, hockey, swimming, table
tennis and volleyball.

Presence of star basketball player, Shiba Maggon gave a boost to the participating team. The former basketball player who is the coach for the Indian Junior Team at present and is also one of the first international woman referees, warned the teams against the pitfalls of resting on their laurels. “After reaching a certain level, several players start counting what they have achieved and remain satisfied with that. But, a sportsperson should constantly strive to better himself or herself and this is the principle that I have always followed,” said the woman who has made her team proud with her spectacular performance time and again.

sports1This edition of VIE featured competitions in badminton, basketball, cricket, hockey, swimming, table tennis and volleyball. Each event witnessed enthusiastic participation for men and women in their respective categories.About 1000 athletes from India and Sri Lanka took part in the events. Competing with the top teams from different colleges and universities, Jain University bagged the overall championship title. The champions won six titles and finished second in three others. Jain University has been a torch bearer for devloping sports and VIE 2013 added another successful chapter to the endeavours.
