VIE 2012 takes university sports to another level

VIE, the mega annual sports event of Jain University made a splash in its 2012 edition with increased participation, more number of events and introduction of new prize category. Organized by the sports wing of Jain University, the chief sponsor for VIE 2012 was Vagus. The all India inter-university tournament witnessed participation from more than 35 universities and colleges across India including two colleges from Sri Lanka.

The sports tournament was held for 10 categories, basketball, tennis, cricket, swimming, hockey, football, volleyball, table tennis, athletics and softball. In order to encourage the participation of women’s sportsperson in cricket, the 13th edition of VIE also featured cricket for women. Five teams from different colleges and universities participated in this event.

The inaugural session of VIE provided a huge boost to confidence of the participating team with stalwarts from the field of sports and other dignitaries emphasizing on the need for such sports competition. Cricketing star Parthiv Patel was one of the guests for the event. Also present on the occasion was Dr R Chenraj Jain, President, Jain University Trust and Mr Shankar, Director, Sports, Jain University. The symbolic lighting of VIE fire and unveiling of the VIE. Cup marked the vibrant beginning of VIE Mesmerizing play of fire and colourful performances added to the celebratory mood of the occasion.

VIE has almost been a tradition for Jain University . Continuing for the past 13 years it is one of the most awaited sporting events in the university arena. The fest was started in order to promote sports and providing a competitive ground for talented students from all over the country. Organized by the efforts of dedicated staff members and enterprising students supervised by Mr Shankar, VIE not only is a sports competition but an opportunity for participants to witness several star players in action. This edition of VIE also had players such as Mayank Agarwal competing in the events.

Spread over five days from February 8 to February 11, 2012, the sports fest became the playing ground for several riveting competitions in different categories. Among the fierce fight to reach the ultimate glory, the hosts for the tournament, Jain University emerged victorious The sports teams from the University displayed great team spirit, determination and sportsmanship surging ahead to clinch the deal for VIE 2012. The winning team scored 41 points taking away the glory with them.

Jain University fared spectacularly in Tennis, Cricket, Badminton and Basketball apart from other events. In Tennis (Men’s) finals, the team from Jain University overwhelmed their opponents from SSN college registering a victory. Not to be left behind the women’s team from the university outplayed their opponents from SRM University . However, in Hockey it was the Annamalai University that clinched the deal with a 3-1 victory over D B Jain College. In Men’s Cricket finals Presidency College took over Jain University. In the Table Tennis finals SSN College of Engineering bettered SRM University while in Women’s Cricket finals Maharani Laxmi Ammani College overwhelmed NMKRV College for Women.

Badminton again showed some winning performances by the Jain University teams. On one side in the Men’s section the university team became champions by beating Surana College while on the other in the Women section the team beat SSN College of Engineering.
