Techno Filmotsava throws light on the usage of technology in film making

techno-filmotsavaIn continuum with the tradition of fostering human development through excellence in quality education, Jain University in collaboration with Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy had organized the ‘TECHNO FILMOTSAVA’ – a technological film festival. The film festival was jointly coordinated by the Department of BCA and the UG Department of English, School of Graduate Studies.

The festival was aimed at familiarizing students with various technologies like VFX, Animation, AVI etc. used in modern day film making. Five films which have extensively used the aforesaid technologies were screened during the festival which was followed by a discussion with resource persons from the industry and the academia.

Beginning on July 11th, 2014 the festival ran for four days. It was inaugurated the by Dr. R Shanthi Iyer, Director, School of Graduate Studies, Jain University. The inaugural ceremony was presided by Ms. Jayashree M.Kudari – Coordinator Dept.of BCA and Ms. Sreedevi Santhosh- Head, Dept.of English. Mr.Nikunj P Trivedi – Coordinator of Chalanchitra.

techno-filmotsava-1The inauguration ceremony was followed by screening of Endhiran. Dr. M.V Vijayakumar shared his experiences about working as one of the team members for the film. He in his inimitable style discussed Robotics and the concepts of Animotrics and VFX as used in the making of the film. This was followed by a question and answer session where students got their doubts clarified. The second day witnessed the screening of Avatar and the making of Avatar. Mr.Dinesh Damodaran – Head, Jain Animation School appraised the audience about the AVI and live motion capture technique used in making of the film. This was followed by a question and answer session. The Social Network was screened on the third day of the film festival. Dr.Suchitra Nair appraised the students about the ways social networking and micro blogging websites have impacted our daily lives. She also discussed the various ways in which Facebook can be used for educational purpose.

Hacking has become a hot topic of discussion in the realm of cyber crime. Mr.Deepak Rao from I Nurture Educational Solutions discussed the concepts of ethical and unethical hacking. He spoke extensively about how technology has its pros and cons. The last day of the film festival begun with the screening of Fracture. Mr.Don Caeiro- a ballistic expert, discussed various techniques used in modern day Cyber Forensic and how it has helped in elevating the security standards of our nation.

The Valedictory programme began with a speech by Dr.B.T.Venkatesh – Controller of Examinations, Jain University. It was followed by honouring the faculty and student organizers. Dr.B.T.Venkatesh, Dr.R.Shanthi Iyer ,Ms.B.S Shailaja and Ms.Jayashree M.Kudari distributed the certificates to the faculty and student organizers. Ms.Jayashree M.Kudari proposed the vote of thanks by summing up the film festival and also made a special mention of Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy for their constant support and encouragement, it was followed by a photo session. The participants of the festival did benefit from the event and expressed their appreciation for the event.
