Sports department of Jain (Deemed-to-be University) holds its annual sports awards and felicitation ceremony every year. This year, 24 awards were conferred to sportsperson achievers in their respective sport.
While 1 BA student of Jain JAIN and an International swimmer Srihari Nataraj received the ‘Best Outstanding Sports man’ for the year 2018 – 2019, Meenakshi VR from M.Com and Shruthi Mahalingam from PGD received the ‘Overall Swimming Championship’.
Indian Badminton Player and Arjuna Awardee, Shri Anup Sridhar who was felicitated at the event reminisced his days at JAIN and the support he gained from the institution in furthering his passion for sports. While thanking the President, Dr. Chenraj Roychand, Head of Sports Department, Dr. Shankar U V, College Principal Prof. Kanthamani and all beloved teachers and friends for being an immense support system for his sporting career, Anup also mentioned that his achievement wouldn’t have been possible if not for the confidence that he gained from JAIN. He said that every person who strives for success is an achiever in his own right. He added, “When you’re competing, you will have to remember that you are representing a lot of people; be it in college or state or national or international level, you are a representative of people who have invested a lot of faith in you. Aim big but also know how to embrace success and failure with dignity and remember to conduct yourself with poise.”
Greeting and congratulating the achievers, Dr. U V Shankar expressed his happiness about young players of today who are balancing their sports career and academics with perfection. Inspiring the youngsters present at the event, he also spoke about the importance of focus and hope in a sportsperson’s life. “As a sportsperson in particular, one should be focused on the goals set and should never lose hope at any given point of time. Hope is the only thing which drives you to get an Olympic Medal. One has to believe in success and strive hard to achieve the same. There can either be success or failure, but composing ourselves in such situations is what sportsman spirit is all about,” said the head of Sports Department, Dr Shankar. He further mentioned about JAIN having nurtured close to 8 Arjuna awardees along with 1 Khel Rathna awardee and thanked the faculty members too for their support in going that extra mile in helping the sports students achieve academically as well.
