A Seminar on the Role of Digital Technologies in Governance

Jain (Deemed-to-be University) and the Karnataka branch of Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA) organised a seminar on the ‘Role of Digital Technologies in Governance’ in association with the Centre for Research in Social Sciences and Education (CERSSE) on October 15, 2018.

Mr. SV Ranganathan, Vice Chairman, Karnataka State Higher Education Council, Former Chief Secretary of Karnataka and Dr. Sandeep Shastri, Pro Vice Chancellor, JAIN delivered the keynote speeches.

Mr. Ranganathan emphasised the rising impact of digital technology in modern governance while talking about the rapid change in modern societies. His presentation also focused on the impact of big data information technology and behavioural science on modern sciences and drew attention to the challenges that digital technology posed.

Dr. Shastri focused on the need to have access governance. His speech highlighted the importance of ‘human technology’ rather than just ‘information technology’. He also stressed on the emerging gap between the rhetoric and reality of digital technology.

The session also saw a brief discussion, which gave the audience a chance to pose their questions to the panel. The seminar was well attended by students and faculty, along with active participation from the members of the Karnataka branch of IIPA.
