5th National Level Management Development Programme on ‘Business Analytics with SPSS’

The School of Commerce, Jain (Deemed-to-be University) conducted a 3-day workshop on Data Analysis through SPSS from May 9 to 11, 2019. The MDP was conducted by Dr. Vinod Kumar Murti – Country Head, India of IOA (Institute of Analytics) headquartered in London, UK. An industry professional as well as an academician with vast experience of 19 years in the Engineering Industry and 17 years in academics, he is a certified trainer for IBM-CEBT.

Students from various disciplines and states took part to explore and enhance their knowledge. The audience consisted of PG students, academicians, industry practitioners, librarians – academic and corporate, as well as PhD scholars from disciplines such as Commerce and Management, Library Sciences, Cultural Studies, Analytics, Mass Media and Communication, from Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

On the first and second days, the Management Development Programme covered topics such as Basics of research methodology; Creation of SPSS data files; Cleaning of data through identification of mild and hard outliers; Cross tabulation with two and three variables; Data screening through descriptive analysis; Preparation of charts & graphs like histogram, box-plots, stem & leaf diagram, bar & pie charts; Hypothesis testing including all t-tests, One-way ANOVA and Chi-square test and Simple Linear Regression (SLR) & Multiple Linear Regression (MLR). The third day of the programme covered topics such as Factor analysis, Cluster analysis, Basics of Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), Logistic Regression and Artificial Neural Network (ANN).
