2015 – A Year of Beginnings & Completions

Every year plays out a different tune with notes denoting myriad moods. Each note adds to the tune that finally manifests. The year 2015 was a year of iconic achievements and stellar endeavours, meant to enrich education and research at Jain University. It was sprinkled with successes and at times challenges which come as a package as we strive to reach new destinations. Here is a glimpse into the journey.

Academic Enrichment

There are a number of arguments available to prove a point, be it any area but it is only through genuine debate and a will to harness knowledge that solutions emerge.

There are a number of arguments available to prove a point, be it any area but it is only through genuine debate and a will to harness knowledge that solutions emerge. Events organised by different departments and research centres lead to fruitful contributions to the existing knowledge base in various domains. The different departments and research centres of the University conducted more than 40 workshops and a number of training programmes and events to promote active learning and research on campus. Here are a few highlights:

National Science Day

The Centre for Post Graduate Studies of the University celebrated the National Science Day in a unique way by observing an Open Day. The gates of the Centre were opened for students, research scholars, academicians, scientists and science enthusiasts. The day was an attempt to give the interested groups and individuals a peek into the ongoing research in the domains of biotechnology, microbiology, biochemistry and physics at the Centre. Visitors were also given a guided tour of various laboratories including the Central Instrumentation Facility.

Rethinking Language

Globalization has left its mark on everything and language is no different. The Department of Hindi in association with the Sahityik Sanskritik Shodh Sanstha, Mumbai organized an International seminar on the topic Role of Indian Languages in the Era of Globalization. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Dr. Alka Dhanpat from the Department of Indian Languages, Mahatma Gandhi Institute, Mauritius. Dr. Dhanpat emphasized the important space that languages occupy in today’s global landscape. She said, “Languages connect us to our roots and are part of our heritage especially when we are living in adopted countries far away from our home lands. It connects us to our countrymen and helps us to find our footing.” Dr. N. Sundararajan, Vice Chancellor, Jain University, Dr. Mythili P. Rao, Dean, Faculty of Languages and Dr. Shanthi Iyer, Centre Head, School of Graduate Studies also graced the occasion and added their perspectives on the growing importance of languages. The seminar discussed various aspects of Hindi and South Indian Languages, their influence on each other and the role of foreign authors and in propagating Indian languages.

Research Conclave 2015

The Research Conclave 2015 of the University brought together the research scholars, research guides, academicians and experts from different fields on the same platform. This conclave provided opportunities to the participants to interact with eminent personalities such as Dr. C.N.R Rao, Dr. V.S Arunachalam, former Scientific Advisor to the Defence Minister and Dr. M. Govinda Rao, Economist and Former Member, Economic Advisory Council of the Prime Minister. Apart from presentations by research scholars, the conclave also featured an Open House with a research exhibition showcasing the ongoing research at the University. The directors of various research centres of the University also gave presentations on different domains in which research is being pursued at the respective centres. The conclave was a true celebration of knowledge with exchange of ideas, discussion of challenges that the researchers faced and ways in which solutions can be found.

Learning the Stocks

A series of workshops dealing with the economic impact on stock markets, conduct of employees at the workplace and financial modelling were organized by the School of Commerce and Management Studies for the students. During the workshops, the students got an opportunity to learn from some of the best academicians, researchers and industry professionals. The workshops were designed to provide in depth and real time knowledge to students. One of the trainers for the workshops was Kishore B.S, Co-Founder and CEO of the Stock Market Institute, Bangalore. A financial professional, he comes with eight years of experience and has worked for multinationals such as GE, Reliance and India Bulls among others. Prakash Choudhary, the second trainer brought his entrepreneurial skills to the workshop. A financial genius, he has spent more than 10 years in the field of business and finance. The third trainer for the workshop was Prof. Poonam Namjoshi who has worked in the corporate sector and is a reputed name in the field of management education.

9th Annual Summer School

The Summer School on Quantitative Techniques in Social Science Research witnessed its 9th year. Organised by Jain University in association with Lokniti-CSDS, New Delhi, the Summer School trained doctoral research scholars and academicians from different parts of the country on the use of quantitative techniques in social science research over a period of 12 days. The resource persons included include Dr. Pradeep Chhibber, South Asia Chair Professor, University of California, Berkeley, Dr. Irfan Nooruddin, Professor at the Edmund Walsh School of Foreign Service, Georgetown, Dr. Siddarth Swaminathan, Professor, Azim Premji University, Professor Sanjay Kumar, Director CSDS, Delhi, Dr.Suhas Palshikar, Director – Lokniti and Professor, Savitribai Phule University, Pune, Dr. K K Kailash, Asst. Professor of Political Science, University of Hyderabad, Ms. Jyoti Mishra, Lokniti, Dr. Sandeep Shastri, Pro Vice Chancellor, Jain University and Dr. Reetika Syal, Assistant Professor at Jain University.

Book Release

bookreleaseJain University Press released a book titled, Radhakrishna Swamiji Ondu Darshana authored by Prof. R.N. Iyengar, Professor Emeritus and Director- Centre for Ancient History and Culture, Jain University at the Indian Institute of World Culture, Bangalore. It was released by Harshanandaji, President, Ramkrishna Math. The book is a repository of knowledge on the life, teachings and works of Radhakrishna Swamiji.


The faculty from IIAEM, Jain University participated and contributed to Samlochan, an interactive session between industry and academia at the Kempegowda International Airport, Bangalore to discuss the course curriculum of MBA in Aviation Management Programme being offered by Jain University and incorporate the latest industry requirements. The participants in the session included senior leaders and representatives in the industry as well as Airport Authorities including GMR Group, BIAL, IMD, Air India, Jet Airways, Indian Oil – Sky Tanker, Globe Ground India, Bobba Menzies Air Cargo, and others. Jain University was represented senior faculty members, Dr. N.G.R Iyengar, Mentor, IIAEM, Jain University, Prof. K.R Sridhara Murthi, Director of IIAEM and Prof. Dinesh Nilkant, Centre Head of CMS Business School and Prof. N. Nagraj, Head, Dept. of Civil Engineering, Jain University.
